Empowerment Series: It is never too late for learning

N.I.  is one of the inspiring people who proved that learning has no age. She is 72 years and has numerous health issues. Still, she is the first student to attend her session. She usually comes at 11 am, and sometimes earlier, and waits in the waiting room for her class until 1:30 pm because that is the only time someone can drop her up.

She comes to study without knowing if there is going to be someone to drive her home, sometimes she so sick that she hardly can walk but she never gave up. The first day I met her, she could barely recognize a couple of alphabets. Now, she can spell the words she hears in English, understand some words in English, and read sentences.

COVID-19 quarantine did not stop N.I. from reaching her dream, which is to be able to read and write English. She has never missed a class no matter what her circumstances were. She couldn’t use any means of technology to attend her classes during the quarantine. However, this was not an obstacle for her and she continued the journey she started in the AAFS office on WhatsApp.

Her persistence even got stronger; she never misses a class no matter what her circumstances are. Those who say that it is too late for them to learn and make other excuses not starting their journey of learning, N.I. has gone through more than what is stated above and could make it with her determination and persistence and let NOTHING and NO ONE stand in her way to achieve her dream.

If she can do it, then everybody can!
